THE DENTAL CROWN PLACEMENT PROCESS
Dental crown placement typically requires two to three appointments, depending on the patient's tooth and the general dentistry's lab. Dental crowns have to be created in a dental lab, which can take up to two weeks.
The first general dentistry appointment involves taking a mold of the patient's tooth and clearing out any infections. The dentist will likely numb the patient's mouth and then use a dental drill to remove any decayed areas. Then, a temporary dental crown will be placed over the tooth to ensure the protection and prevention of any further problems.
Once the general dentistry practice sends the mold off to the dental lab, the patient has to wait a couple of weeks. During this time, the patient should be extra careful with the temporary crown to ensure that it does not fall off or become damaged. Normal eating can resume after a day or so.
Lastly, the patient will return to the general dentistry practice to have their permanent crown placed. Following placement, the patient may have to be extra careful with the newly restored tooth. A soft-food diet should be adopted for at least a day or so to allow the crown to set in.
